Boxer Superstores is a South African-based limited-range discount supermarket operating in the food, liquor, and building retailing sectors.
Founded in April 1977 in KwaZulu-Natal as KwaZulu Cash ‘n Carry, the company initially operated as a conventional wholesaler specialising in essential commodities. In 1991, it underwent a strategic transformation, rebranding itself as Boxer Superstores. In 2002, Boxer Superstores became part of Pick n Pay Stores Limited.
Under the leadership of Managing Director Marek Masojada, Boxer boasts an extensive network of Superstores, Liquor and Build stores across South Africa and eSwatini. As of September 2023, it had a total footprint of 450 stores.
These trading brands offer a thoughtfully curated product range that encompasses groceries, fresh produce, general merchandise, liquor, and building materials. Boxer caters to a diverse customer base, spanning lower- to middle-income urban, peri-urban, and rural shoppers falling within the LSM 1-5 (lower to middle income) bracket, as well as LSM 6-7 aspirational shoppers.
At the heart of Boxer’s philosophy lies its commitment to shoppers, embodied in the promise of “Never pay more than the Boxer price.”
